Bet365 opens book on Sports Autobiography of the Year

January 11, 2016

England legend Steven Gerrard is already a clear favourite to win a coveted piece of silverware in 2016, after being installed as a 5-2 shot to win the Cross Sports Book Awards Autobiography of the Year with his book My Story.

Leading bookmaker bet365 is receiving a flurry of flutters for the LA Galaxy midfielder to scoop the prestigious accolade, with A.P. McCoy’s memoir Winner coming in at 3/1.

The Cross Sports Book Awards Autobiography of the Year will be one of the most sought after sports literary prizes in 2016, with the awards ceremony being held at Lord’s Cricket Ground on 1st June.

Sports fans were intrigued to see the longlist for the awards, which saw two former world champions, a former England captain, an ex-England coach and the greatest jockey of his generation join the prestigious list.

David ‘Bumble’ Lloyd is the first cricket celebrity on the list and the Lancashire hero would return £3.50 on a £1 stake, with current odds at 7/2.

With slightly longer odds is current Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce. Big Sam is backed up by 1991 Formula One and 1993 Indy Car Champion Nigel Mansell, whose book Staying on Track races into fifth place and will be a popular punt amongst motorsport fans with odds currently at 8/1.

Max Mosley’s book Formula One and Beyond is a current longshot at 20/1. However, his story has attracted some terrific reviews and Christmas sales may help to shorten the odds on this being the first winner from an administrator.

The list will be reduced to a shortlist of six titles in the spring and the winner announced on 1st June 2016, selected by a celebrity judging panel.
