Flying the Flag

by Carrie Dunn

In 1921, the FA banned women from playing football, but these rebels refused to quit. Leaving behind jobs and families, they sought opportunities abroad, where they could pursue their dreams. This book uncovers the untold stories of those pioneering British women who paved the way for today’s stars.

Carrie Dunn has covered England at international tournaments since 2005. She has a PhD in sport sociology, and her own footballing career began – and ended – with the Junior Hatters’ supporters’ club in her hometown of Luton. She has been writing books about women’s football for over ten years.
