The 2024 Charles Tyrwhitt Sports Book Awards, in association with The Sunday Times, announces ten category shortlists today. Sarina Wiegman, Phil Tufnell, Paul Whitehouse, Sharron Davies, Guenther Steiner, Nick Compton, Sam Quek, Lee Craigie, Andriy Shevchenko, Beth Mead, Louise Minchin, Leah Williamson, Rassie Erasmus, and Lawrence Dallaglio are among those nominated.

The public vote for the previously announced Autobiography of the Year category and the Sports Entertainment Book of the Year also open at sportsbookawards.com/vote.

Autobiography of the Year shortlistees are: Stuart Broad, Carl Frampton with Paul Gibson, Chris Kamara, Kevin Sinfield with Paul Hayward, Ronnie O'Sullivan with Tom Fordyce, Dame Kelly Holmes, Danny Cipriani with Ben Dirs and Maggie Alphonsi with Gavin Mairs.

The winners of the Charles Tyrwhitt Sports Book Awards, in association with The Sunday Times, will be presented at a star-studded ceremony on 6th June at the iconic Kia Oval, hosted by Mark Pougatch.

The Charles Tyrwhitt Sports Book Awards, in association with The Sunday Times, is a major annual promotion for sports writing and publishing. The awards exist to highlight the most outstanding sports books of the previous calendar year to showcase their merits and enhance their reputation and profile.

The shortlists for the 2024 Charles Tyrwhitt Sports Book Awards have been announced this morning, with nominations featuring some of the greatest sports men and women in a diverse collection of works across eleven award categories.

Shortlistees include: Sarina Wiegman, Phil Tufnell, Paul Whitehouse, Sharron Davies, Guenther Steiner, Nick Compton, Sam Quek, Lee Craigie, Andriy Shevchenko, Beth Mead, Louise Minchin, Leah Williamson, Rassie Erasmus, Lawrence Dallaglio, Stuart Broad, Carl Frampton, Chris Kamara, Kevin Sinfield, Dame Kelly Holmes, Danny Cipriani and Maggie Alphonsi.

 

Stuart Broad, the England cricket hero, has commented about being shortlisted:

“It’s a real honour for my book to be shortlisted for Best Autobiography at the Charles Tyrwhitt Sports Book Awards 2024. Last year was one of the most fun and entertaining summers of my career, so I’m glad that the book could capture some of that magic as well as the other moments of my career. I’ve been blown away by the response to my story, so to be nominated for this award is great.”

 

Dame Kelly Holmes, the double Olympic Gold medallist has said of her nomination:

“It’s my second nomination at The Charles Tyrwhitt Sports Book Awards and it’s a real honour to be featuring in a category with some amazing sportsmen and women. I’m truly delighted to be nominated in the Best Autobiography category.”    

 

The Charles Tyrwhitt Sports Book Awards are judged by an outstanding academy, including: The Football Writers’ Association, The Rugby Union Writers’ Club, The Cricket Society, National Literacy Trust, Christine Ohuruogu, Mark Pougatch, Annie Vernon, Simon Halliday, Jill Douglas, Emma Paton, Jeanette Kwakye, Amy Williams, Sue Anstiss and Simon Brotherton.

In addition, a public vote is now open in two categories: The Charles Tyrwhitt Autobiography of the Year and Sports Entertainment Book of the Year. Votes can be placed here: sportsbookawards.com/vote
